Psych Season 7 Episode 5 “100 clues”

Happy 100 episodes to PSYCH!!!!!! Now that I got that out of the way, I can get onto my thoughts on the episode, and this episode had a special promotion and fans were given a chance to determine who committed the crime during the time of the airing and fans on the east coast made their pick and that was the episode that I saw first and that I will be talking about.

The episode started off as one of those flashbacks that this show use to be known for, but don’t do as often. When Shawn and Gus had recently started and they were working on a case about a murdered groupie who was sleeping with the band, and lead singer Billy Lips (Steve Valentine) was arrested for his arrested for the crime.

The episode then goes to the Psych office where Shawn and Juliet are discussing plans for the evening, where they are given an invitation to a party by this girl (Jacqueline Breakwell) dressed as a bellboy and had an interesting song and dance number. Juliet gets called in to go to work, and Shawn immediately invites Gus. They go to the creepy mansion of Billy Lips, who found Jesus and is now Jewish and they are accompanied by the surprisingly hip butler, Clizby (Garret Morris), the Harvard Graduate, Martin Kahn, the stuttering groupie/ex-nurse, Lesley (Lesley Ann Warren) the drunk manager, Highway Harry (Martin Mull) and a surprise guest appearance by Curt Smith. This story takes us from a creepy doorbell, a panther prowling in the yard, a body in the freezer, a chandler nearly killing Billy, and more toupee’s then Gus can handle.

The conclusion that the east coast fans picked wanted is the one where the butler did it, and he killed Michelle Lane many years earlier because the band was stealing his tunes, and he had to kill Rip (Scott McNeil) because he remembered the murder due to therapy years later.

Billy Lips portrayed by Steve Valentine was a fun character to see and I had immediately recognized him from his guest appearance on Monk as the killer magician. He played a the rock star turned Jewish who apparently had lost the ability to hold back on what he said and may have lost a bit to the drugs. But the character he portrayed was really funny with his care free attitude and he got quite some laughs out of me, probably my favorite moment with him was near the end where he is proven innocent of the recent murders to which he screams what we just heard and then ends with an awkward I guess I still murdered Michelle Lane (which he didn’t do in the version I watched) to which Lassiter agrees and I laugh out loud.

The other guest stars besides Curt Smith didn’t have very much screen time and most of their humor came off their reactions to the rest of the cast, and in my own opinion were there to serve as their first guesses in the who done it sweepstakes much like the old game and the movie that it was based off of (which I unfortunately haven’t seen). Although the reveal of who was the father to Lesley’s son was, was quite funny- it was the butler.
This was an episode where Shawn and Gus starred and well, Juliet had her moments too.

Shawn had his moments from his crazy rocker outfits that he and Gus had on in the flashback, to Shawn and Gus fighting over who was going to eat the dead man’s food. I also liked Shawn going on about how Curt Smith had died, but he was just severely wounded, although the man did get shot and attacked by a panther twice. Shawn’s crazy face when he solved who done it was also funny.

Gus had his moments which ranged from the moment he came running back in when he realized that there was a panther loose on the grounds, and his deeply traumatic fear of toupee’s due to his scary grandpa. Then his quest to find the chocolate room, only to find a secret room full of toupees. I liked the switch to active the door to the secret room and it is in a place that only Shawn and Gus would probably look. To activate the switch you stick your fingers in the moose head’s nose. But probably my favorite scene with Shawn and Gus was when Lassiter was interrogating Shawn and Gus and they threw each other under the bus.

Juliet was a lot more reactive, but when she is not being the only sane person in an investigation (ex. The vampire episode, the big foot episode), she can quite easily be drawn in and act to Shawn’s level of maturity and she usually does pretty good in those moments. She was really anxious to go to the party and wear a special dress, but was denied due to work, her disappointment faces where funny and then she hasn’t apparently learned yet that if Shawn wants to do something, He will not do it alone, if Juliet can’t do it, he will immediately find and invite Gus who will agree pretty quickly. Also her surprise when Shawn slapped her on the buttocks made me laugh.
